Block schedules and a session that survives

New

• Block schedules: block the apps you pick at the same times every week, even with Kaizen closed (Android, iOS).
  • Tap the app blocking chip on the timer, then Add schedule: pick the days, all day or a time window, and the apps it blocks.
  • Each schedule has its own apps and its own Open anyway settings.
  • Plans changed? End today's block, skip the next one, or skip until a date.
  • Locked works for schedules too: once a Locked block starts, it can't be ended, changed or switched off, apart from your weekly emergency end.
  • A notification shows while a schedule is on, with an End block button for blocks that aren't Locked (Android).
• Quick look: a short look at a blocked app, without the wait. It costs half a use (Android, iOS).
• Your session survives: fully closing Kaizen during a session no longer ends it. It's still there the next time you open Kaizen, within a day.

Improvements

• Avatars: make your own avatar and take it everywhere in Kaizen, from your Profile to your Focus Rooms and the bottom menu. Avatars replace profile photos.
  • Tap Create avatar on your Profile, then mix hair, glasses, outfits, backgrounds and more, or press Shuffle for a whole new look.
  • Undo and Redo let you try things out freely.
  • You can also keep your initials on a colour, and switch any time.
• Profile redesign: your Profile now opens on your avatar, with your name, when you joined and your streak.
  • A new Summary card shows your focus time and how it compares with the period before.
  • Your average session now shows how long your focus sessions really last.
  • Every stats card got a cleaner look, and Session Mix is now a ring.

Free private rooms and a fresher look

• Free room hosting: hosting a private Focus Room no longer needs Premium. Press + in Focus Rooms to start one for you and up to 3 others.

  • Light mode is brighter and cleaner, with white fields, chips and buttons that stand out instead of blending in.
  • Buttons, badges and labels are easier to read in both themes.
• Nicer panels: every panel now shares one cleaner style.
  • In dark mode, panels now sit a shade lighter than the page, so it's always clear what's on top.
  • On tablets and big screens, panels open as a card in the middle instead of sliding up from the bottom.
  • Menus and pickers, like the ⋯ menu, open right next to what you clicked, instead of at the bottom of the screen (Web, Windows).
• Invite links: rooms now have a link. Share it from Invite people, or tap the code to copy it.
  • The link opens your room in Kaizen: in the app if it's installed (phone or desktop), otherwise on the web.
  • Pasting a link, or a whole invite message, into Join room with code also works.

Fixes

Stopwatch mode

New

• Stopwatch mode: in timer settings, choose Stopwatch under Mode and your focus session counts up from 00:00 instead of down. Press the checkmark to finish, and the session is saved before your break starts.
  • Focus Goal: your work length becomes a goal rather than an end. The ring fills toward it, and past it an extra lap shows how far over you are.
  • Goal Check-in: alerts you once when you reach your Focus Goal, then the stopwatch keeps counting. It's on by default and can be switched off in timer settings.
  • Finished stopwatch sessions count toward your stats, streaks, habits and tasks like any other session, and show a stopwatch icon in your session history.
  • A stopwatch session can be finished once it reaches 5 minutes, and saves itself at 3 hours.
  • A stopwatch session always waits for you to start it. Breaks still start on their own if you have auto-start on.
  • In Focus Rooms, other members see a stopwatch session's time counting up live.
  • Under Locked mode, Finish waits until your Focus Goal is reached (iOS, Android).
  • The ongoing notification counts up and has a Finish button (Android).

Improvements

• Clearer wording in timer settings for Alerts and for what each Immersive Mode toggle hides.
• Screen readers now name the icon buttons on the timer screen.
• Dialog buttons stack neatly when a label would otherwise be cut off.

Fixes

• Tapping Play or Skip right as a session ends no longer starts or skips twice.
• Reset to Defaults in timer settings is now blocked during a Locked session, instead of changing your settings (iOS, Android).
• Session history rows that can't be expanded no longer show a clickable cursor (Web, Windows).

App blocking hotfix

Fixes

• In 4.10.0, app blocking never actually blocked anything. It does now (Android).
• The blocking notification, with its Turn off button, never appeared unless you had already allowed notifications. Kaizen now asks when you turn blocking on (Android).

App blocking, Block now, exact timer values

New

• App blocking: tap "Block apps" under the timer and pick the apps that distract you. They stay blocked while a focus session runs and open again on your breaks. Free for up to 3 apps, more with Premium (iOS, Android).
  • Block now: blocks them right away, breaks included, until you turn it off. No session needed. On Android, you can also turn it off from the notification.
  • Open anyway: add an optional button to the block screen, and choose how often it works, how long it makes you wait, and how long the app stays open.
  • Strictness (Premium): Strict keeps your apps blocked while you pause. Locked also stops you from skipping or ending the session, with one emergency end a week.
  • Privacy: your app list never leaves your phone. On iPhone, Kaizen uses Screen Time and can't even see which apps you picked. On Android, it uses Usage access, never an Accessibility service.
• What's New: Settings has a What's New link under About that opens this changelog.

Improvements

• Tap the time in the dial while the timer is stopped to open the timer settings.
• Sliders have − and + buttons that move the value one unit at a time, such as a minute or a percent, and holding one keeps it moving.
• Links to our website open inside the app instead of your browser (iOS, Android).
• Music tracks you haven't downloaded yet are greyed out when you're offline, the same way themes already were.

Fixes

• Dragging across a chart to read its values didn't work on iPhone. It does now (iOS).
• Some descriptions in Settings no longer show an empty line below them (Android).
• The "Nothing planned yet" note on the Tasks page slides with the sections above it instead of jumping into place.

Undo, session details, readable charts, and a smaller Android app

New

• Undo: after you complete, archive, or move a task to the Inbox, a brief Undo button appears at the bottom of the screen. It works for single tasks and multi-select alike, and undoes only that move.
• Past sessions show what you worked on: expand a session in your history to see each task and habit it counted toward, and for how long. Before, it only showed how many tasks.
• Delete past sessions: the ⋯ menu on each session in your history can delete it. Before it goes, the confirmation spells out what changes: your streak, and any task time or habit minutes the session had counted. The session that is running cannot be deleted.
• Read any chart: touch and hold a chart on your Profile (hover on Web and Windows) to see the exact value for that point, bar, or slice.
• Streak preview: editing a habit's schedule, or changing your week start in Settings, shows what happens to your streak before you confirm, and asks first if it would drop.

Improvements

• A much smaller app: the download is about 40% smaller, the app uses less memory, and the first launch after an update is quicker (Android).
• Tapping a button that needs a connection while offline no longer interrupts you with a popup. A small notice appears and fades on its own.
• If copying a code fails, you are told instead of nothing happening.
• Archived habits keep the streak they had on the day you archived them, and restoring one tells you if the streak would come out lower.
• Session history rows read the same way whatever they describe: pauses, room time, tasks, and habits, with the value on the right.
• The To Do list says "Nothing planned yet" when it is empty while your Inbox still has tasks.
• In a room, a paused member's countdown is dimmed, the same way your own dial dims when paused.
• The window can be made much smaller, down to phone size, and the timer rearranges itself to fit narrow windows (Windows).
• Right-click no longer shows a web browser menu, and F5, Ctrl+P, and Ctrl+U no longer reload, print, or show the page source (Windows).

Fixes

• The task and habit editor no longer goes blank or changes its title for a moment while it slides closed.
• The timer no longer keeps showing a habit after you change it from Focus time to Check-off, since Check-off habits do not take timer minutes.
• Fixed a crash when the timer was stopped and started again in quick succession (Android).
• Long button labels no longer spill outside their buttons (Web, Windows).
• The member card in a room no longer scrolls by a pixel (Web, Windows).

Host controls, live timers, and a cleaner Tasks page

New

• Host controls: rename your room, change its visibility or capacity, remove a member, or hand hosting on.
• See a room before you join: each room shows who is inside and whether it is focusing, quiet, or full.
• Live member timers: everyone's time counts down second by second instead of jumping.
• The member list is the page: in a room you see who is focusing at once, with leave and settings pinned up top.
• Member cards: tap anyone to see their status, what they're on, and how long they've been there.
• Invite from the room: the code sits at the top of the member list, ready to share.
• Your presence: a gear in the room header controls whether members see your current task.
• Menus and pickers are sheets now: the ⋯ menus, pickers, and info panels slide up with a handle. Swipe down or press Escape to close.
• Inbox detail: tapping an inbox item opens it for subtasks, and the actions menu lets you edit one without moving it to To Do. Plan is its own button now.
• Actions menu on completed tasks, so archiving is no longer the only option.
• Multi-select is easier to find: Select is in every task's actions menu, and Ctrl/Cmd click works on Web and Windows.

Improvements

• The Tasks page got a cleaner look: lighter section headers with the count tucked right, an add-to-Inbox box that blends into the list, and the subtask count as a small label rather than its own row.
• Each room member's state is a word now, "Focusing", "Paused", "Away", not a colored icon, and the dot matches the timer.
• Someone whose connection drops shows as Away, not a timer that looks like it's running.
• Joining a room no longer blanks the list; only the room you tapped shows a spinner.
• The room list keeps itself up to date while you browse.
• Leaving a room you host on your own now warns you it will close.

A guided first launch and purchase fixes

• Pick your background on first launch: setting up Kaizen on a new device now starts with a one-time welcome screen, the real timer dial over a live preview of your chosen background, so what you pick is exactly what you get. Existing devices never see it.

Improvements

• Cycle complete, meet your stats: the cycle-complete message in the dial now has a Show stats button straight to your Profile charts instead of two totals.
• Skipping a session always asks for confirmation, even when the timer is idle, to prevent accidental taps.
• Slide-up panels like the theme picker are edge-to-edge: content scrolls under the navigation bar and settles above it (iOS, Android).
• Under the hood: the app's core technology was updated to the latest versions on every platform.

Fixes

• Switching timer themes no longer flashes the previous theme's image while the new one loads.
• Successful purchases are no longer sometimes reported as incomplete, cancelling a purchase no longer shows an error, and payments awaiting approval now explain what happens next.
• Trial details on subscription screens only appear when they apply to your account (iOS).
• Subscription plan prices follow your language's currency and number formatting.

Three hotfixes for 4.6.0

Fixes

• The theme picker scrolls smoothly again instead of stuttering while you browse (Android).
• Members without a profile picture no longer show oversized initials in the room pill on the timer screen.
• A profile picture you pick while editing your profile shows straight away, instead of staying on your initials until you save.

Inbox, 60+ themes, subtasks for everyone, redesigned timer

New

• Inbox on Tasks: catch a thought the second it arrives without breaking focus to decide what it is. One line, no priority, no due date, and you plan it into your To Do list whenever you are actually planning. The page is now three collapsible sections: Inbox, To Do, and Completed.
• Subtasks and time estimates are free for everyone, not Premium. Up to 25 subtasks per task.
• 60+ timer themes, up from 16, across six collections: lofi, nature, city, cozy, space, and minimal, with filters for category, orientation, and type. They download as you pick them, so the app installs smaller, and Storage settings can clear any you no longer want.
• Animated backgrounds: themes can be looping video, not just stills.
• Redesigned timer screen: the stacked info cards became small pills, and your position in the cycle moved into the dial itself. Buttons and cards sit on frosted glass over your background, and an empty task, habit, or tag pill invites you to add one, going quiet once you are focusing.
• Habit consistency: every habit shows how often it actually happens as a percentage, with a trend chart by week or month so you can see whether it is building or slipping. Rest days and skips never count against it.

Changed

• "Apply theme to all screens" is gone. Backgrounds are timer-only now. The timer becomes a properly immersive scene, and Tasks, Habits, Rooms, and Profile get a clean, high-contrast background so lists, charts, and text stay easy to read.

Improvements

• Focus music plays offline once you have listened to it, instead of streaming every time (Web).
• Habit and streak reminders can be set to any minute, not just fixed offsets (iOS, Android).
• You are only asked for notification permission when you actually set a reminder (iOS, Android).

Fixes

• Icons could show up blank after a fresh install (Android). This release was a first fix for it. It helped on some devices but not all; the real cause turned out to be deeper and was properly resolved in 3.6.3.
